Film Screenings

We are pleased to confirm that we will be restarting film screenings again for the academic year 2012-2013

We run a weekly film screening, in association with KCL’s Film Department and Film Soc and (as of 2010/11) UCLU LGBT. Screenings will alternate between UCL and KCL campuses each week. Unless otherwise stated, all screenings are on Wednesdays at 7pm, and all KCL screenings are held at the Strand campus (room details of UCL screenings to be provided individually).

Our screenings are free and open to non-LGBT students as well, so come along!

2012/2013 Film Season Semester 1

Wednesday 14th November – Prayers For Bobby

We’re back after reading week with a special screening of the must-see film ‘Prayers For Bobby’.

This November, King’s LGBT have organised a series of lectures and discussions based around ‘Faith & Homosexuality’. The message and themes of this film coincide with some of our talks, so this is another great way to get involved with what we are doing this month.

‘Prayers For Bobby’ stars the fantastic Sigourney Weaver in an Emmy-nominated performance as she comes to terms with the suicide of her gay son, Bo

bby. Based on a true story, devout Christian Mary Griffith (Sigourney Weaver) raises her children with the conservative teachings of the Presbyterian Church. Following Bobby’s tragic suicide, Mary goes on a journey of self-discovery questioning herself, society and her interpretation of religious scripture.Afterwards, we’ll head to Retro Bar just off the Strand for a few drinks and a chat if you wish to join. The screenings are open to everybody from all London universities, so feel free to invite others!

The location of the lecture hall (Room S-2.08) is the second floor underground of the Strand Campus, after turning right from the exit of the stairs/lift.

The film starts at 7pm. The facebook event can be found here.
